Why this matters
What an E-stop can and cannot replace in a complete safeguarding system. CNC equipment combines stored energy, automated motion, sharp tools, chips, workholding forces, electricity, fluids and sometimes combustible dust or metals. Safety depends on the whole system.
Use the machine builder’s instructions
The exact hazards and required controls depend on the machine, process and workplace. Read the manuals, maintain guards and interlocks, train operators and follow formal procedures for setup, operation, maintenance and energy isolation.
Do not substitute convenience for safeguarding
Production pressure does not justify bypassing interlocks, leaving doors open during automatic motion, defeating guards or reaching into hazardous areas. Stop and correct the process.
Document and improve
Record incidents, near misses, recurring alarms and unsafe workarounds. Correct root causes through engineering controls, maintenance, procedures and training.
